'Earthquakes' Featuring State Song

Jan. 30 • Mayday

By Mike Breen · January 26th, 2010 · Sound Advice

Some people have long thought DJs and dance clubs are hastening the death of live music. But can’t they all just get along?

That’s the approach of "Earthquakes," the monthly live music/dance night at Northside’s Mayday. On the last Saturday of every month, founder Kendall Bruns (and fellow DJ John Hogan) spin a variety of cool dance/Indie tunes and also showcase an original local band (a formula Bruns and others found success with at the old alchemize club).

This week the live band is State Song (pictured), who are currently finishing work on their debut release for Phratry Records, Dear Hearts & Gentle People. They kick things off at 10:30 p.m., followed by Bruns and Hogan spinning everything from Vampire Weekend to Hall & Oates.
