Five-foot tall red stars, personalities and bands; all will shine in the glow of 20,000 lights when Cincinnati brings in the holiday season with “Light up the Square,” the Queen City’s annual lighting of the holiday evergreen at Fountain Square on Fifth and Vine.

Re-elected Mayor Mark Mallory and special guest, actor and Bengals fan Josh Hutcherson, will light the 2009 holiday tree at 7 p.m.

Before the Mayor hits the switch, at 6:30 p.m., the party begins with hosts Jeff Thomas from Q102’s Jeff and Jen in the Morning and Channel 5’s Sheree Paolello along with live music all night from the local cover band Naked Karate Girls, who aren't going to be naked, don’t know karate and aren't even girls but still know how to make a really great time.

After the tree lighting, Fountain Square is going to light up what are supposed to be clear skies with a fireworks show and a visit from the jolly guy in the red suit.
