Holiday: Festival of Lights

By Maija Zummo · November 24th, 2009 · CityBeat Recommends

This event has been lighting up the Cincinnati Zoo during the holiday season for 27 years. They’re still “glowing green” this year with more than one-million LED lights set up in environmentally-friendly displays.

New to this year’s festivities is the “Wild Lights Show on Swan Lake,” where lights on a giant tree flicker in time to popular holiday songs.

Santa will also be on hand with his reindeer in Gingerbread Village for kids to visit. There will be a post office set up so kids can mail their letters to the North Pole — even though the man in red will be right there (apparently Santa can fit down chimneys but he can’t escape holiday bureaucracy).

In addition to these treats, there will be entertainment by The Madcap Puppet Theatre and The Rappin' Elves, storytelling by Mrs. Claus, reindeer, animal characters, train rides and more. 5-9 p.m. nightly through Jan. 3. $13 admission, $9 for children.
