Media Bridges' Free Wave Riot

Sept. 5 • Know Theatre of Cincinnati

By Mike Breen · September 1st, 2009 · Sound Advice

Community media center Media Bridges is turning 20 years old, and this Saturday it’s time to celebrate in honor of its past and in support of its future.

“Free Wave Riot: Celebrating 20 Years of Local Music, Local Voices, Local Media” is a benefit concert at Know Theatre in Over-the-Rhine to raise money for the launch of the diverse, independent FM radio station WVQC: Radio Free Queen City, which is scheduled to hit the airwaves this fall.

The station will feature a mix of news, talk and local music (mmm, our favorite!).

Saturday’s concert kicks off at 8 p.m. and stars IsWhat?! (pictured), Culture Queer, The Tigerlilies, J. Dorsey Blues Revival, Fourth Letter Gang, Losanti and others. Requested donation is $9.57 (though there's a sliding scale) and, coincidentally, the station will air on 95.7 FM. Oh wait, that probably isn’t a coincidence, huh?

Along with the music will be spoken word performances, video installations and a raffle of some local-arts-related items. Get event details here.
