It’s an honor to talk to a comedy legend like Bobcat Goldthwait. “I'll crush that right out of you,” he laughs. “‘I was a big fan, and I talked to him and he’s kind of a cock.’” Quite the opposite. Goldthwait rose to prominence in the ’80s with his odd stage persona, which was punctuated by a voice that oscillated wildly between gruff and squeally. These days he can usually be found directing various TV shows or independent films that he has written.

Once in a while, he’ll hit the stage and tell jokes. “I just come back to stand-up so I don't have to do reality shows,” he insists. “That’s the absolute truth. It’s what affords me to be able to make quality independent (comedy films). And make my alimony payments.” It’s not that the genre is totally distasteful to him, mind you. “I'm not above watching celebrity reality shows,” he explains. “I just don’t want to be on them.” His latest cinematic effort is World’s Greatest Dad, due out in early fall. Bobcat Goldthwait performs at Go Bananas at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.
