Ups to Antioch and The Drop, down with Boehner and Bronson

By Kevin Osborne · July 8th, 2009 · Winners and Losers

[WINNER]

ANTIOCH COLLEGE: Financially troubled Antioch College in Yellow Springs is getting a new lease on life. The campus, closed since last year, is being bought by a group of alumni for $6 million. The group plans to reopen the school in about two years as an independent college unrelated to Antioch’s campuses in Los Angeles, Seattle, Santa Barbara, Calif., and New Hampshire.

[LOSER]

JOHN BOEHNER:The easy-to-lampoon congressman from West Chester is better known for his overly shellacked hairstyle and his “policy proposals” that are always skimpy on the details.

Republican Boehner sunk to a new low last week, however, when he called the Democrat-backed climate-change bill “a piece of shit” in an interview. Here’s a pile for you, Boehner.

[WINNER]

DROP INN CENTER: There are a lot of misconceptions about the Drop Inn Center homeless shelter in Over-the-Rhine. Now the Drop Inn is getting some valuable help in relating its mission to the world. Strata-G Communications marketing group recently redesigned the shelter’s Web site (dropinn.org) for free, to help it better explain its purpose.

[LOSER]

PETER BRONSON: The arch-conservative Enquirer columnist regularly distorts facts to fit his hard-right agenda. But when Bronson criticized U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) on his blog, he relied on an outright lie. Bronson posted a photo of Franken wearing a diaper and holding a stuffed animal while writing, “there must be some great ads to be made from Franken’s clips and quips.” Except the pic is a known fake, doctored in 2004 by the state GOP. Do a little research, Pete.
