“I used to be afraid of heights,” admits Jeremy Millsaps of the aerial dance troupe Jamming Talent Productions, creator of last year’s Strawberry Pie.
In Travel, his feet never touch the ground. “I just focus on what’s in my hand,” whether it’s a hoop, trapeze or length of silk (fabric burns, not falls, are his chief occupational hazard).
For Millsaps, terror has turned to liberation, a gravity- and stress-defying release from his day job running a local salon. “To be in the air, it’s just freedom,” he says, a sensation he hopes the audience can experience vicariously. “It’s the idea of being weightless. You don’t have to always have those pressures on you.”
