Art: China Design Now at the Cincinnati Art Museum

By Matt Morris · October 14th, 2008 · CityBeat Recommends

China Design Now makes its U.S. debut as a comprehensive exhibition of hundreds of objects elaborates on the booming innovations presently taking place in the fields of design, fashion, and architecture throughout China.

The exhibition is split into three sections, corresponding one of those design areas with an eastern coastal city: Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing. Yung Ho Chang, a world-renowned architect and the head of MIT’s Department of Architecture, designed the exhibition presentation for its presentation in Cincinnati.

Each city that the exhibition moves through has been conceived differently, incorporating fabrics and different interior architectures to highlight the special qualities of the work. Posters, product design, haute couture and images that explore the 2008 Olympic Games Stadium are just some of the rich inventory being presented.

China Design Now continues on view through Jan. 11. $8 for adults; $6 for seniors/college students; $4 for children ages 6-17; free for members and children under age 6.
