Details on the essential MidPoint wristband, advance tickets and cover charges

By Staff · September 10th, 2008 · Music

MidPoint offers 175 bands on 17 stages over three nights -- with so much to see and hear, why waste time standing in line to pay cover charges at each club? Festivalgoers in the know pony up for a three-day or one-day wristband and guarantee themselves smooth sailing.

The three-day wristband gains you entry to all MidPoint shows, subject to capacity rules, and waives all cover charges. One-day wristbands get you into multiple shows on one particular night. They also allow you to travel from venue to venue via the Scion Streetcar Shuttle, which provides free rides each evening along a route on Main Street, 12th Street, Walnut Street and Fifth Street.

There are multiple options for getting in to see MidPoint showcases. Here are the details:

Three-day wristband
Your best bet. This green plastic wristband gets you entry to all MidPoint showcases, subject to capacity rules, and waives all cover charges. (See notes below about the Dewey's Pizza Stage shows at the Southgate House and Woxy.com Stage shows at the Aronoff Center.) It also allows you to get around downtown and Over-the-Rhine venues via the Scion Streetcar Shuttle and gains you access to the "Secret Show" on Sept. 27.

Cost: $29

How to buy: Advance online sales here and in-person sales at Coffee Emporium (Over-the-Rhine), College Hill Coffee, Everybody's Music (Pleasant Ridge), Lookout Joe's (Mount Lookout), Shake It Records (Northside), Sitwell's (Clifton), Willis Music (Florence) and CityBeat (Downtown).

Wristbands will also be on sale through the first evening of MidPoint (Sept. 25) at venues and at MPMF headquarters at the Aronoff Center for the Arts (Downtown).

Dewey's Pizza Stage at Southgate House
The only way to ensure you see the national acts at the Southgate House is to purchase advance tickets to the individual concerts. A minimum of 250 slots will be held for three-day wristband holders for each show, but wristband admission is on a first-come first-served basis and subject to venue capacity. One-day wristbands won't get you in here without paying the cover charge. Note: This is an 18 and up venue. Also note: The Scion Streetcar Shuttle does not run to the Southgate House.

Cost: Robert Pollard's Boston Spaceships and The High Strung (Sept. 25) are $15 advance; The Sadies and The Hiders (Sept. 26) are $12 advance; Mates of State and Fairmount Girls (Sept. 27) are $12 advance.

How to Buy: Southgate House Web site here. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door at day-of-show prices.

Woxy.com Stage at the Aronoff's Fifth Third Bank Theater
Admission to these showcases is by three-day wristband or cover charge only. One-day wristbands won't get you in here without paying the cover charge. Note: This is an all ages venue.

Cost: Why? and others (Sept. 25) are $10 at the door; Jukebox The Ghost and others (Sept. 26) are $10 at the door; Headlights, Wussy and others (Sept. 27) are $10 at the door

How to Buy: Admission for three-day wristband holders is on a first-come first-served basis and subject to venue capacity. Otherwise, pay at the door.

One-day wristband
A good choice if you'll be attending MidPoint just one night and want in/out privileges at multiple venues. This paper wristband gets you entry to all MidPoint showcases during one evening, subject to capacity rules, and waives all cover charges with the exceptions of the Dewey's Pizza Stage shows at the Southgate House and Woxy.com Stage shows at the Aronoff Center. It also allows you to get around downtown and Over-the-Rhine venues via the Scion Streetcar Shuttle.

Cost: $15

How to buy: Purchase at venues each evening or daytime during the festival at MPMF headquarters at the Aronoff Center for the Arts (Downtown).

Individual shows
If you'll be attending just one MidPoint showcase or are commitment-phobic, you can pay the cover charge at each venue each evening if space is available. (See the note above about the Dewey's Pizza Stage shows at the Southgate House.)

Cost: $5-$10 depending on venue

How to buy: At the door.

Free kickoff show on Fountain Square
Local alt rockers Seabird perform a free show 6-8 p.m. on the opening night of MidPoint (Sept. 25). The band recently released its debut album, 'Til We See the Shore, on Nashville-based Credential Recordings, a subsidiary of EMI Records.

Cost: Free
