Notes: This song began as a simple response to last week's heat wave. Then, as headlines scorched out stories about the Israel and Lebanon bombings, followed by more Iraq bombings, followed by forest fires out west, I started warming up to the idea of a broader connection between the literal and figurative temperature of the world. Seems to me we could all use a long, lazy downpour to cleanse our unrest.

Chris Werner: Upright Bass

Justin Todhunter: Mandolin, Backup Vocals

Kentucky Graham: Tenor Guitar

The planes pour down a storm of rage The lightning strikes ignite the blaze The world's on fire and I'm just praying for rain

The bomb-blast clouds pound the skies The air field's filled with fireflies The world's on fire and I'm just praying for rain

This is the point where we are warned The boiling point of no return

The climate's wild, it's way too hot We're all gonna bake if we don't cool off The world's on fire and I'm just praying for rain

We all will drop if the temperatures rise If divided we live, then united we'll die

The world's on fire and I'm just praying for rain

The smoke it blinds and blows and bends And believe it or not, it'll get us in the end The world's on fire and I'm just praying for rain

This is the point where we are warned The boiling point of no return

I wish, I wish in the well for luck That the water in the world ain't all washed up The world's on fire and I'm just praying for rain
