1998 Show The Cincinnati Entertainment Awards were held Monday, November 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Taft Theatre, Fifth and Sycamore streets in downtown Cincinnati. Jim Scott of WLW radio and Mojo Nixon of WEBN radio served as co-hosts for the evening. Awards were given out in 27 music and theater categories. Most of the awards were determined via readers ballots in CityBeat, while several categories (Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Play, Best Season, etc.) were selected by a committee of music and theater critics, writers and insiders. Columbia Records recording artists The Afghan Whigs were inducted into the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards Hall of Fame and played a five-song mini-set to close the evening. Other musical performances scheduled were Rob Fetters, Big In Iowa, Janet Pressley, Watusi Tribe and Throneberry. Theatrical performances were scheduled by Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival, CCM and Falcon Productions. (All performing acts are nominated for awards.) Proceeds from the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards benefit LINKS (Lonely Instruments for Needy Kids), a project of CCM and Buddy Roger's Music that repairs donated musical instruments and donates them to schoolchildren throughout Greater Cincinnati. Cincinnati Entertainment Awards sponsors were Cinergy, Buddy Roger's Music, the Taft Theatre and CityBeat. |
