When Cincinnati voters go to the polls Tuesday, they’ll face a ballot of various races and issues at the local and federal levels.

Topping the ballot, of course, are the Democratic and Republican presidential primaries. On the Democratic side, Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are locked in a hotly contested race. The outcome in Ohio (and Texas on the same day) will go a long way to determining which candidate gets the party’s nomination.

In the GOP race, Sen. John McCain is close to winning enough delegates to clinch his party’s nomination, but Mike Huckabee remains on the ballot for those conservatives who want to cast a protest vote.

For those living in eastern sections of Greater Cincinnati that are part of Ohio’s 2nd U.S. Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Miami Township) is facing GOP challenger Tom Brinkman Jr. from Mount Lookout. For Democrats, the choice is between Victoria Wulsin and Steve Black, both of whom are Indian Hill residents.

Also on the Republican ballot is the contested race for Hamilton County Common Pleas judge between Pat DeWine and Kathy King.

Two property tax issues also are on the Hamilton County ballot. Issue 10 is a five-year emergency levy to provide money for Cincinnati Public Schools, while Issue 17 is a five-year levy for the Cincinnati Zoo. More than a dozen community initiatives and tax levies are also on the Hamilton County ballot.

Ohio polls are open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
