Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Getting educated and active

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the YWCA is offering a variety of cost-free programs open to anyone interested:

· Oct. 2

7:30 a.m. -- Coordinating Council Discussion led by Judge Ron Adrien of Cleveland. This discussion will focus on the importance of a strong community coordinating council for domestic violence.

9 a.m. -- Child custody discussion with Erna Olatson and Kathy Boller-Cook, a judicial training for judges and magistrates on how to make informed child custody decisions.

· Oct. 16

6:45 a.m. -- She Screams Without Sound, a documentary about women killed by domestic violence

Noon -- On Fountain Square, the YWCA hosts an informational presentation and booths with information about domestic violence.

6:45 p.m. -- Vigil and march starting at the Hamilton County Courthouse. Marchers will commemorate the 20th year anniversary of She Screams Without Sound and remember women killed by domestic violence

· Oct. 26-28

Fathers and sons retreat -- an opportunity for males to face and learn how to deal with the violence in their lives. For registration and/or more information, call 513-361-2144 or write kshrimplin@ywcacin.org.
