Shawn Thomas is a happy man. It's spring, and spring and summer are the best time of year at Behle Street Cafe. As soon as nice weather arrives, he opens the patio -- and that's the biggest, most exciting time of year. His team has really come together: Otis Meyer, his chef, has been there for three years, and Shelley, his manager, for 10. And with million-dollar condos going up across the street, this is one happy man.
CB: Where did you eat your last great meal and what was it?
Shawn Thomas: Beluga in Hyde Park. I like to get away and have sushi, and I had sushi, sushi and more sushi. And some beef soup, but I don't remember what it was called.
CB: What would be your fantasy table, if you could have anyone come in for you to feed, and what would you feed them?
ST: Wow, that's a hard question! I'm not going to pick a celebrity. If I could cook for the most important table of my lifetime, it would be Jesus and my family. Everyone would be fascinated to meet Him. And I wouldn't make anything fancy -- nothing overboard. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans. And Otis' bread pudding. Simple, but good.
