Critics' Pick: Arthur's

Scene: The bi-level brick patio at Arthur's has a lot of character. With authentic gaslights on the walls, wrought iron furniture and rails and a net-covered pergola for a little extra shade, this busy neighborhood spot, though a little bit smoky, is quite congenial.

Eats: I was impressed by their homemade gazpacho ($2.75); very chunky and mildly spiced, it's full of ripe summer tomatoes and cucumbers. The burgers are legendary. I ordered mine topped with boursin cheese ($7.25), and it was cooked to medium-rare perfection. There are also turkey and black bean burgers (each $6.50), as well as pub grub munchies and a few salad options. Save room for chocolate mousse cake ($5); it's decadent and delicious. (Anne Mitchell)
