Jake Speed - Speedy Delivery

Notes: This song sprang into focus after my first ever visit to the eye doctor (which my blurry vision had necessitated for years). My newly altered view of the world set me to thinking about how a pair of proverbial glasses could alter my figurative view of things. However, I?ve discovered that not even a magical pair of glasses can bring clarity to the obtuse angle at which many people choose to view one another. As headbutting, testosterone-shooting, and nation-bombing continue to increase in popularity, may see blindness as a way of avoiding the lost sight of reality.

Chris Werner: Upright Bass
Kentucky Graham: Tenor Guitar

I woke up and tried to rub my nightmare right out of my eyes
All the world was just a blur, my point of view way out of line
Doc, I can't see, it's all a mess to me
Maybe I've just lost my sight
Is this what the world should look like?

Doc said you best have a seat, let's take a peek at what's going on
He said my head was all messed up from all the headbutts I had done
Doc, I won't lie, I headbutt all the time
Maybe I've just lost my sight
Is this what the world should look like?

Then he asked me for a sample, said he had a test to do
I insisted, why a sample, won't a simple eye chart do?
Your eyes have a glow of high levels of testosterone
Maybe I've just lost my sight

Is this what the world should look like?

While we waited, Doc said hey man why don't we just watch the news
looked to me on the TV like little kids with big balloons
Doc said, "Man, you're blind, that's grown ups with explosive mines"
Maybe I've just lost my sight

Is this what the world should look like?

The test came in, was positive, I needed glasses so I could see
Doc prepared a special pair that I could wear as I did leave
Doc, is this a joke, this world's still out of focus?
Maybe I've just lost my sight

Is this what the world should look like?

Doc took back my glasses, said perhaps you'd rather wear contacts
I put'em in, things still looked grim, everything looked oil black
Doc, are these broke, they make the world look like it's up in smoke
Maybe I've just lost my sight

Is this what the world should look like?

Finally, he said to me, your eyes deceive you see just fine
I could not believe my ears, did I go deaf, did I hear right?
Doc, this can't be? Is this the world that everybody sees?
Maybe we've all lost our sight

Is this what the world should look like?
