Jake Speed - Speedy Delivery

Notes: River Sweep, the annual clean up of the Ohio River, inspired this week's songatorial. On Saturday morning, my family, friends, and I waded 'long the banks of the Ohio, extracting naked dolls, pet carrying cases, and infinity + 1 bottles out of the shore. We tried to make our mark on the muddy banks, but there's always another dumptruckful of debris that lies ahead. If we keep treating our drinking water this way, who knows what'll lie ahead for us all?

In the summertime, down by the riverside
I found a bottle with a note stuffed inside
.stuffed inside

In a death black pen the old letter simply said
Beware, beware of what lies ahead

It was signed sincerely Old Man River
It was marked with a blood-red seal
It was stained with oil-thick water
It was labeled last testament and will

Old Man River died today
Old Man River got washed away
The very last words the old man said
Beware, Beware of what lies ahead

Down by the riverside I wept as boats blew by
I watched as the weary water died

I looked ahead at the man-marred shore
Then I read the note once more
Beware, beware of what lies ahead

It was signed sincerely Old Man River
It was marked with a blood-red seal
It was stained with oil-thick water
It was labeled last testament and will

Old Man River died today
Old Man River got washed away
The very last words the old man said
Beware, Beware of what lies ahead
