JIM PENDERY is in touch with the holistic side to art making. Inspired by nature and life, he continues to make art that's non-traditional in its content as well as appearance. To see some of his work, check out Visual Fringe through Saturday and his Web site www.dana-
finearts.com. Read on to learn about five things that motivate Pendery to create.
My Wife. Karen has been my inspiration and muse for 20 years.
Cognitive Liberty. Awareness is infinite and reality is elastic. Tools and social institutions that empower the exploration, enrichment and evolution of human consciousness are in many ways the cultural equivalent of anti-oxidants: they beat up stale, obstructive energy patterns, remove toxins and nourish life.
Hatha Yoga. A truly extraordinary human cultural achievement: deep peace, a quiet mind and vibrant health. It organically integrates the human body as an ultimate engine of enjoyment and accomplishment. I consider myself a manual laborer, so the better my body works, the better I can work. I feel that Yoga philosophy is profound and elevating.
Literature. Books can be extremely wild. The literary underground is a must for anyone who wants to seriously explore both the evolving margins of human thought, behavior and the timeless truths of the human condition. To me, artistically, it's like royal jelly.
The Natural World. Remaining connected to the earth is essential to my well-being. Harmony with the seamless web of life is the foundation of health, strength and wisdom. I love the natural resources of this beautiful city and state.
