In describing the organizations that make up Community Shares, the staff groups them under five headings:

Advancing self-reliance and responsibility
· Center for Independent Living Options, providing resources to enable children and adults with disabilities to live and work independently in the community

· Connections: A Safe Place, providing counseling and support to sexually abused women

· First Step Home, offering long-term drug and alcohol treatment and housing for low-income women and their children

· Franciscan Haircuts from the Heart, providing hair care services to the poor to boost their confidence and dignity

· National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)-Hamilton County, helping families and individuals affected by mental illnesses through education, support and advocacy

· Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region, providing affordable reproductive health care and sexuality education and advocating reproductive choice and responsibility

· Power Inspires Progress, providing on-the-job training and employment education

· Project Connect Homeless Children's Fund, which gives homeless children school supplies, transportation, tutoring, uniforms and enrichment opportunities

Promoting civic involvement and reform
· Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati, providing horticulture education, technical assistance and material resources to create and maintain community gardens and beautification projects

· Justice Watch, working for the rights of prisoners and the abolition of the death penalty and operating a transitional home for men coming from the prison system

· League of Women Voters of the Cincinnati Area Education Fund, promoting informed and active participation in government, publishing election guides and sponsoring discussions

· Ohio Justice and Policy Center, working for progressive prison reform, fighting prison violations of civil rights, empowering prisoners to improve their lives and advocating for abolition of the death penalty

· Woman's City Club of Greater Cincinnati, providing open forums for the exchange of ideas, developing individuals' skills for civic action and promoting children, women, diversity and democracy

Developing self-sufficiency through affordable housing
· Drop Inn Center, providing shelter and supportive services to homeless people

· Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless, working to mobilize the community around issues directly affecting the homeless

· Northern Kentucky Housing and Homeless Coalition, providing a forum for advocacy and maintaining ownership of affordable housing units

· Over the Rhine Housing Network, developing racially integrated, decent, safe, sanitary and affordable housing for residents of Over-the-Rhine

· Race Street Tenant Organization Cooperative (ReSTOC), providing decent, safe, racially integrated, low-income housing in Over-the-Rhine, especially for homeless or chemically dependent persons

Restoring and protecting the environment
· ECO: Environmental Community Organization, preserving community and environmental health by organizing with communities to hold industry and government accountable

· Gorman Heritage Farm Foundation, a 120-acre historic, working farm that provides experiences hands-on experience in farming, animal husbandry, environmental stewardship and traditional crafts and culture

· Imago: For the Earth, offering workshops and developing a model sustainable urban neighborhood

· Ohio Citizen Action Education Fund, organizing grassroots campaigns to protect public health and the environment

Building a united and inclusive community
· AIDS Volunteers of Cincinnati (AVOC), serving people who have HIV/AIDS and their families

· Center for Peace Education, providing youth and adults with the tools, strategies and experiences needed to value differences and resolve conflict constructively

· Know Theatre Tribe, where black and white, young and old, straight and gay come together to experience multicultural theater

· MUSE Cincinnati Women's Choir, dedicated to musical excellence and social change, committed to diversity in audience, membership, and programming
