Productive artists: I admire artists who produce a large amount of work. It does not need to be varied or entirely successful. What's important is that the artist keeps busy. This insures that he or she won't get in the way of other people.
The potential to be influential: The 20th century produced few visual artists who were beneficial to the world. To be a part of the few is a constant source of inspiration for me.
The "Modern Art Cycle": Three things have helped to destroy the credibility of contemporary art -- modern art criticism (encompassing both the collector and curatorial system), socialism (masquerading as individualism) and higher education. I would say that of the three, higher education is the most pernicious because it helps to promote the other two.
Ambition: I have the same respect for an artist who embarks on an ambitious project as I do for a spider that spins a web in a storm drain.
Humanity's reaction toward modern art: Modern art and nearly everything that's followed it should be considered crimes against humanity. To carry the analogy a bit further, perhaps the 1913 New York Armory Show can be seen as art history's Auschwitz-Birkenau.
