CEA winner Christine Dye reprises her performance as Shirley Valentine this weekend.

It's a rare moment when you actually have the chance to see a performance that's already won a Cincinnati Entertainment Award, since CityBeat's CEAs are usually handed out months after a show has closed. CHRISTINE DYE will be reprising her 2003 Best Actress performance in the one-woman show SHIRLEY VALENTINE at Mariemont Players' Walton Creek Theatre (4101 Walton Creek Road, Plainville) Thursday through Sunday. Dye captivated audiences as a depressed but spunky woman who fantasizes about and then acts on escaping her dead-end marriage. Another good prospect for entertainment is the production of THE DRAWER BOY currently onstage at Dayton's Human Race Theatre Company. The show, about the friendship of two middle-aged bachelors on an Ontario farm, was a hit at the Cincinnati Playhouse last season. This production is directed by RICHARD HESS, who heads the drama program at UC's College-Conservatory of Music; his deft oversight always makes for an enjoyable show; his cast includes CCM grad JUSTIN SCHULTZ and BRUCE CROMER, familiar to Cincinnati Playhouse audiences as Christmas Carol's Bob Cratchit. Speaking of Bruce Cromer, there's a wonderful rumor floating around that he's the Playhouse's likely candidate to move up from Scrooge's beleaguered assistant to the humbug central role in December. Joneal Joplin, who played Scrooge for seven years, has decided to reclaim his holiday season. It would be a joy to see Cromer in the role. ...
