VH-1 is Surviving Ted Nugent
|

Here are a few programs to look out for in the upcoming week ...
SUNDAY 9 P.M. Surviving Ted Nugent, VH-1. "Motor City Madman" Ted Nugent lives off the land in Michigan and hunts big game to nourish his own family. Seven unsuspecting souls have accepted an invitation to enter and survive his all-terrain universe for cash and prizes. The challengers include a vegan, a gay man (uh oh), a New Yorker not afraid to do a little kissing up, a saucy sex kitten not ashamed to use all her assets to get ahead (check that ID Ted), plus a Michigan native who is sure smelling sweet will bring him success. A total of $50,000 and tempting prizes are at the end of the rainbow. But to reach that pot of gold, they must get past the Ted.
SUNDAY 10:30 P.M. Extreme History with Roger Daltrey, The History Channel. Who? Sorry about that. Yes, that Roger Daltrey. The lead singer of The Who takes viewers back in time to experience the nitty-gritty, day-to-day realities of some of history's great moments. Daltrey, an avid history buff, demonstrates the challenges of surviving and in this episode takes on the mighty and muddy Colorado River in a replica of the boat used by a one-armed Civil War veteran, Major John Wesley Powell, who, along with nine men, charted the river in 1869. Daltrey also climbs one-armed along the 500-foot-high river walls.
SUNDAY 9 P.M. Unsolved History, Discover. "Robinson Crusoe: The True Story." This documentary about Alexander Selkirk tells a compelling story of one man's survival on a deserted island. Selkirk was a Scottish pirate, marooned in 1704 on a remote, uninhabited island 400 miles off the coast of Chile. Facing unimaginable isolation and odds, he survived for four years and four months. His story inspired Daniel Defoe to write The Strange and Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. The program takes viewers to Juan Fernandez Island, where Selkirk was marooned, and talks to psychologists, historians and survival experts who explore how he survived, physically and emotionally. The program also reveals what became of him after his rescue. First thing he did was deliver a package ... oh, no, wait.
FRIDAY 8 P.M. Undiscovered Walt Disney World, Travel Channel. Beyond the theme parks, restaurants and souvenirs, discover what Walt Disney World offers -- off the beaten path. Visit unknown sites, untried attractions, see the resort from a bird's eye view and find out why Mickey is hiding. Ask our friends at the Orlando Weekly (CityBeat's cousin in central Florida): They might say he's hiding undocumented workers or scheming for government handouts.
FRIDAY 8 P.M. A&E In Concert, A&E. "Sting: Sacred Love." According to A&E, this two-hour special program allows viewers for the first time to join Sting as he creates a new album. Except Sting already did that with the rockumentary (sorry) Bring on the Night 18 years ago! This program includes rehearsals of the songs with his band at the Schtinger's Malibu home, and the first public performance of the songs, along with older Sting and Police classics, at the Los Angeles Mayan Theatre. Viewers are also transported to Paris to watch Sting record in a studio.
NEWS & NOTES: Dayton native Gordon Jump, who played Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson on WKRP In Cincinnati passed away on Sept. 23. He was the man who uttered perhaps the single funniest line in sit-com history. "As God as my witness ... I thought turkeys could fly." He didn't disagree about that line's greatness, but did once tell Groove Tube it was "30 minutes of great writing (by Bill Dial) setting that sucker up."
