Travel Channel gets your motor running with Harley Mania

Here are a few programs to look out for in the upcoming week ...
WEDNESDAY 8 P.M. Harley Mania, Travel Channel. In 2003, Harley-Davidson celebrates its 100th anniversary. The Harley Company is about more than motorcycles: It has captured the imagination of hundreds of thousands of riders intent on exercising their birthright to be wild. This program celebrates the history and future of a company at the center of an international subculture. Get your motor running.
WEDNESDAY 10 P.M. Take This Job, A&E. "Dearly Departed." A real Six Feet Under, if you will. This episode of A&E's new series goes behind the scenes of a funeral home where they are caring for and prepping the dead. Eerie, yet strangely compelling.
THURSDAY 8 P.M. 2003 Video Music Awards, MTV. Chris Rock hosts the 20th annual awards live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City. This marks the fifth straight year that the VMAs have been broadcast from the City. This year is also the 20th airing of the awards, which began in 1984 (in case you can't do the math) from Radio City Music Hall. Maybe someone will do something horrible -- but with MTV-generation taste meter nearly on "E," that may be hard to accomplish.
THURSDAY 8 P.M. Nature Tech, The History Channel. "Lightning." A high-tech look at how man has tried to control natural phenomena throughout history. Even with today's technology, when Nature rears her angry head, for the most part, technology hasn't a fighting chance. Lightning kills nearly 100 people every year in the U.S. and injures hundreds of others. Meet the men and women who look for new ways of detection, prevention and how to save lives when Nature strikes. Shazam!
THURSDAY 10 P.M. Towers of Tibet, Discovery. While searching for snow leopards in eastern Tibet, scientists happened upon unique towering structures. There are 600-700 of these stone towers, some as high as 150 feet, others as old as 1,100 years, dating from around the time of the Mongol invasion of China. Might leave you with the strange urge to watch a Richard Gere movie.
NEWS & NOTES: ER: The Complete First Season is now out on DVD. It's a very nice set with the usual goodies (behind the scenes, outtakes and so on). One of the commentaries is from series creator Michael Crichton (on the pilot). Crichton wrote the teleplay in 1974, shortly after his novel Andromeda Strain became a bestseller. It wasn't until 1994, of course, that ER premiered on NBC, saving Anthony "Revenge of the Nerds" Edwards' career and launching hometown hunk George Clooney into the stratosphere.
