Here are a few programs to look out for in the upcoming week ...

WEDNESDAY 10 P.M. John & Carolyn: Portrait of a Marriage, A&E. Examines new revelations about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, including her alleged drug use and violent outbursts and his desperate attempts to save their marriage (not screwing around might have helped). Includes an interview with Ed Klein, author of The Kennedy Curse.

THURSDAY 8 P.M. US-1: Avenue of America, The History Channel. Road shows are perfect summer viewing. On a road trip through U.S. history from Maine to Florida, this program explores amazing stories of the men and women, battles and bootleggers, and billion-dollar businesses that made US-1 an avenue to the heart of America. A great feat of roadway construction, linking 14 states and the District of Columbia, US-1 became the first federal highway in 1926, but its legacy winds back to colonial days. The first leg of the journey goes from Maine to Connecticut. Another program follows and then continues on successive nights in two-hour chunks.

SATURDAY 7 P.M. Evel Knievel's Great Ride, Travel Channel. The people of Butte, Mont., throw a week-long party in honor of their most famous resident. Follow the thrills and spills of his career, from small time crook to legendary daredevil to acknowledged nut.

SATURDAY 10 P.M. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, TLC. A new all-girl rock band gets the chance to interview three potential music video directors. Will they choose the veteran or the novice to direct their new video? And how scantily will they dress? Odd one for TLC.

SUNDAY 8 P.M. Prehistoric America, Discovery. This program takes viewers back in time 14,000 years to the end of the last ice age, revealing what the Great Plains and the mountains of California looked like and what creatures lived there. Using clues from the present to build a picture of the distant past, this three-part series reconstructs North America and documents its wildlife as experienced by the earliest human colonizers. Perhaps we'll get a brief tour of Bedrock.

NEWS & NOTES: Friends: The Complete Fourth Season is out on DVD. Loads of great episodes in this collection, probably one the show's best. Extras include producer commentary on three episodes and added footage within several episodes. Also featured is a documentary that looks at the Friends phenomenon around the world (the Brits are wild about it) and a version of Ross' trivia game (the one that lost Rachel and Monica their apartment).
