Here are a few programs to look out for in the upcoming week ...

WEDNESDAY 8 P.M. Extreme Machines, TLC. "Armored Cars." Armored cars have come a long way in a century. In this documentary, see how and why the armored car has changed over the years to develop in two groups: obviously armored and not. Wonder what kinda mileage you get in those things?

THURSDAY 6:30 P.M. Even Stevens, Disney Channel. Shia LaBeouf, who plays Lewis Stevens, can currently be seen in the motion picture, Holes. However, TV sister Ren is the focus of this very funny episode, as our heroine takes a job at a mall toast stand. Very well written, very well performed.

THURSDAY 9 P.M. Haunted Town, Travel Channel. Atchison, Kan., is a pleasant town of Victorian houses and leafy streets, and the birthplace of Amelia Earhart. But, behind the quiet facades, ghosts of all sorts are said to frolic.

FRIDAY 9 P.M. Inside the Playboy Mansion, A&E. "If you don't swing, don't ring." So advises the Latin inscription at the entrance of the Playboy Mansion as viewers learn in this behind-the-scenes look at the private world of publisher Hugh Hefner. Includes a guided tour of the mansion's palatial private quarters; footage of some of the steamiest, sexiest parties "Hef" has ever thrown; and interviews with mansion regulars Bill Maher, Pamela Anderson, Drew Carey and Bill Cosby. Put on your silk pajamas and enjoy.

SUNDAY 10 P.M. The Day the Earth Nearly Died, Discovery. 250 million years ago, long before the dinosaurs, the earth was flourishing with life. Then, 95 percent of all species disappeared in just a few thousand years -- the blink of a geological eye. Scientists have debated the cause of this mass extinction. Was it a meteor strike? Could the Earth have sued the meteor?

SUNDAY 8 P.M. April 1865, The History Channel. Based on Jay Winik's bestseller, April 1865: The Month That Saved America, this two-hour documentary offers a new look at the Civil War's final days. These 30 pivotal days in the life of the U.S. witnessed the frenzied fall of Richmond, Va., Lee's harrowing retreat, the surrender at Appomattox, and Lincoln's assassination five days later. It's not only the tale of the war's denouement, but also the story of the rebirth of our nation.

TUESDAY 9 A.M. M*A*S*H, FX. "5 O'clock Charlie." Hilarious episode from the timeless beginnings of M*A*S*H (seasons one through three). An inept enemy pilot provides comic relief, as he tries to obliterate the 4077th, one misguided bomb at a time.

NEWS & NOTES: A VH-1 political poll (?) found that 54 percent of Americans think it's inappropriate for celebrities to make comments about current events. Groove Tube finds it funny, since most celebrities are dopes. ... ABC Family will have loads of original programming this summer, including Lucky 7, about a woman searching for Mr. Right and The Brendon Leonard Show, written and produced entirely by teens.
