MTV rushes Sorority Life II

Here are a few programs to look out for in the upcoming week ...

WEDNESDAY 10 P.M. Sorority Life II, MTV. Having had so much fun the first time out, MTV thought they'd have another go. It gets better. At 10:30 p.m. we get Fraternity Life. How long before one of the brothers starts up with the "we do more than party -- we give money to charity" routine?

THURSDAY 1 P.M. World's Greatest Casinos, Travel Channel. In the middle of an extended valley lies the Las Vegas of South Africa: Sun City. Sun City Hotel has one of the largest casinos in the southern hemisphere. Take a day to go on safari for an up close and personal look of Africa's wildlife. Does anyone remember Artists Against Apartheid? "Don't ask me, Sun City/Cuz I ain't gonna play!" Times change.

THURSDAY 10 P.M. Ancient E.R., TLC. This program takes a look at the medicine practiced by civilizations 5,000 years ago. While procedures like nose jobs and prosthetic limbs seem like modern advances, they might be as old as the pyramids. Ancient Egyptian texts describe these practices in detail. The show also documents extraordinary medical and surgical practices by Hindu societies in India.

FRIDAY 9 P.M. Hauntings, A&E. "New York State." In New York -- a state full of folklore, legends and perhaps ghosts -- we visit Manhattan's Merchant House Museum, where Gertrude Treadwell was born, died ... and might still reside. At the Buffalo Naval Park, we search for George Sullivan's ghost aboard the USS Sullivan, the ship dedicated to the five Sullivan brothers who died together in WWII. In the Mohawk Valley, there's the haunted Beardslee Castle, and on Staten Island, you can tour Conference House, home to Revolutionary War spirits.

SUNDAY 8 P.M. Counter-strike, TBS. Based on a novel by Richard Henick of Crimson Tide fame, this movie is about a summit between the U.S. and China aboard the QEII luxury liner. People start getting chummy with the slightly spacey captain, the Don Juan doctor and the bumbling purser. Then Charo shows up ... oh, no wait ... the TV Land document got mixed up with the TBS file.

SUNDAY 10 P.M. The Anna Nicole Show, E! It's season No. 2 of life with the former playmate. It's odd how so many people praise The Osbournes, but dismiss this effort. At least our heroine is coherent about 90 percent of the time.

SUNDAY 10 P.M. Karaoke Dreams, VH-1. It's not just drunken Japanese businessmen. Follow the lives of six of America's most passionate karaoke performers, cutthroat competitors on a quest for the crooning crown of karaoke. They empty their savings accounts, sacrifice their careers and watch their loved ones walk away, all for the applause of liquored-up strangers and the glory of aping their idols.

NEWS & NOTES: Despite misleading folks into thinking the finale was Feb. 10, Fox pulled in huge numbers for Joe Millionaire's actual finale a week later. ... In other ratings news, Dr. Phil's visit to The Late Show on CBS beat out NBC's The Tonight Show for the first time in three years. ... Charles Grodin, at work on a sitcom pilot for CBS, has asked to be let out of his contract with the 60 Minutes II news magazine.
