Women Writing for (a) Change bear witness

BY BRANDON BRADY Linking? Click Here!

Oh, sister, where art thou? WOMEN WRITING FOR (A) CHANGE will reveal the answer with AN APPALACHIAN WOMEN'S READ-AROUND. Local poetry fave PAULETTA HANSEL, named 2002 Ohio Poet of the Year, will be among 14 Appalachian and Southern writers who will respond to the theme of "We Are From ..." The evening of personal and cultural history ties in with Nancy Rudolph's picturesque exhibit, Bearing Witness to the Human Spirit: Photographs from a World Wide Odyssey 1930-2002, at the YWCA's Women's Art Gallery at 898 Walnut St., Downtown. The reading is one night only, Friday 6-8 p.m., but Rudolph's show on rural Appalachia and Cincinnati's own Appalachian community, continues through March 15. But really, why wait? To RSVP for the reading, call 513-241-7090. ...

Looking for a good mystery now that Celebrity Mole Hawaii is over? Will A GOOD SOLDIER do? JEFFREY MARKS, local mystery writer, steps back in time for the second case in his U.S. Grant mystery series. Grant and family visit Bethel, Ohio, only to discover his friends are mysteriously dying as the country heals from the Civil War. Marks will sign and discuss his new release at 7 p.m. Friday at Barnes & Noble at Newport on the Levee. 859-581-2000. ...

Yeah, we might put this little newspaper out via computer, but we still like to get our hands dirty with some old and rare books. As specialty vendors bring in some fine finds, THE RARE AND ANTIQUE BOOKFAIR hearkens back to the days before computers. Appraisers will also be on hand for the event, just so avid readers can check on some potentially pricey treasures from their own collections. The event takes place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Raymond Walters College in Blue Ash. 513-936-1573.
