The Road to Wellness
Intuition

By Janet Berg

Intuition is our natural ability to perceive the truth or fact about a person or situation without using logic or reason. This ability is innate -- though we were highly intuitive as children, we were taught not to trust ourselves and our feelings. Obeying adults and rules and left-brain thinking were logical and rational; hunches, gut feeling or instinct, hair prickling on the back of your neck or just "knowing" were discounted as foolish and inconsequential.

That gut feeling or reaction is felt in our solar plexus, just below the bottom of the breastbone. It's been suggested that this area is actually a "primitive brain" and our intuitive radar center, the part of our body that tells us if we're to trust or feel safe. This is where we read our own and others' energy fields by receiving "vibes."

We also receive intuitive guidance through our dreams or meditation. Precognition, warning, solutions to problems, clarity and direction can be accessed in the dream state. Scientific evidence has shown that brain activity is the same whether we're asleep or awake. By using the intuitive and inner-directed information in addition to our logic and reasoning, we can increase our problem-solving intelligence.

When we discount our inner guidance and intuition, we suffer discord, anxiety, insomnia and illness. These are ways our bodies scream at us to pay attention to and acknowledge our feelings about ourselves, relationships, jobs and life choices. We can relearn this intuitive ability by paying close attention to what we feel in our bodies, whatever the situation, and by trusting this wisdom. ©
