The Kickovers
|
A powerhouse bill of two of Boston's Rawk & Roll finest invades the Southgate House for a little early-week jam-kicking. The Kickovers are a high-octane band steeped in the tradition of powerhouse Classic Rock (AC/DC, Cheap Trick) and aggressive Post Punk (Pixies, Replacements). The group was formed by guitarist Nate Albert following his departure from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (and a stint earning a degree from Brown University), and also features ex-Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh, guitarist Johnny Rioux and drummer Jamie Vavra. The band's fantastic new album, Osaka, was released earlier this year on Fenway Recordings, the new label founded by ex-Grand Royal and Geffen exec Mark Kates. Anteing up the pure Rock might of the bill is fellow Bostonites The Damn Personals, who are supporting their raucous, potent new album, Standing Still in the U.S.A. If you dig new "Garage" rockers like The Hives, but crave a little more melodic sensibility and general songwriting creativity, you can't go wrong with the DPs.
At the Southgate House on Tuesday.
