Poets blaze the trail

BY BRANDON BRADY

The literary world is on fire this week. Nothing to do with burning books. The RIVERBANK POETRY PROJECT is setting Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park (1763 Hamilton-Cleves Road, Hamilton) ablaze with a good old-fashioned bonfire on Tuesday at 7 p.m. There'll be s'mores galore (mmmm, yummy), but don't let that detract from the main focus of the event. Aspiring and established poets are invited to come partake in an open mic night in the great outdoors. People are even encouraged to come dressed as their favorite poet or character from a poem. (I'd love to see the costume for Sylvia Plath.) 513-863-8873. ... Aspiring fiction writers shouldn't feel left out this week. They may not have a bonfire waiting for them, but they can pick up some burning hot tips during BEAT THE ODDS from 7-8 p.m. Thursday. The program, sponsored by The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County (800 Vine St., Downtown), features ANNE BOWLING, editor of F&W Publications' Novel & Short Story Writer's Market. 513-369-6991. ... Joseph-Beth Booksellers (2692 Madison Road, Norwood) has its own hot property at 7 p.m. Thursday. Actress JAMIE LEE CURTIS will make an in-house appearance. But the fabulous fortysomething won't be kissing-and-telling. Actually, it's the younger set she's catering to -- the much younger set. Parents, grab your children and hear Curtis discuss her fifth book for tykes, I'm Gonna Like Me, a little lesson in self-esteem. You best hurry though. This is one of those limited-space deals. Line numbers are available when you buy Curtis' latest book or any of her backlist. An original poster from Halloween won't cut it. 513-396-8960.
