Local college students find their calling beyond classrooms and campus
With the University of Cincinnati's fall quarter starting next week, the local academic year is off and running. This is the week CityBeat has run its annual "Back to School" issue, but this year we're doing it a little differently.
We feature interviews with five local college students who have focused their creative energy off campus -- and not just toward getting a job after graduation. They represent five of the major institutions in Greater Cincinnati: UC, Xavier, Northern Kentucky University, Miami and Cincinnati State.
Each of the five thinks beyond homework and the classroom to the community at large. Each leads by example, though fellow students might not recognize them. And each is the kind of talented young person we need to stay and work here if Cincinnati is ever to reach its potential.
