Ember Swift

Toronto-based singer/songwriter Ember Swift was named the top vocalist in a publication in her hometown, leading to a spurt of consistent touring throughout North America in an effort to spread the word about one of independent music's most buzz-worthy performers. Swift and her three-piece, all-female backing band have performed at several Folk and women's festivals, with several more booked for 2002. Swift's hard-to-define musical motif thrives on a diversity that mixes Folk, Blues, Celtic, Punk and Jazz into an acoustic setting for an organic, powerful mix. The socially active Swift takes the die-hard D.I.Y. approach to music, running her own, volunteer-fueled label, Few'll Ignite Sound, under the motto "Art First, Business Second." Swift's latest release is the four-song live EP, Snapshots (available at emberswift.com)

At Sudsy Malone's on Monday.
