The kid's turned out OK. That would be hunky JOSHUA BELL, who started out as a musical prodigy from Bloomington, Ind., at the age of 4 with his first violin. Now he's in his 30s and doing right well, including a couple of Grammys. This weekend his gig is with the CINCINNATI SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA -- he's been doing concerts here since he was a teen-ager -- where he'll play Brahms' Violin Concerto. Two good bets: Thursday's 7:30 p.m. concert, preceded by free eats, or Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. when tickets can be had for the "spring break" price of only $5, an astounding bargain for a CSO concert at Music Hall. Tickets: 513-381-3300. ... Another good bargain for orchestral music: concerts by the KENTUCKY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, on May 10-11 at NKU's Greaves Concert Hall. They're getting all horny for the finale of their 10th season -- the program features all kinds of showy pieces featuring the brass section, plus some solo work by VINCENT DIMARTINO, including Frank Proto's A Carmen Fantasy for Trumpet and Orchestra, featuring melodies from Bizet's popular opera. Tickets: 859-431-6216. ... Another season finale from a popular Classical series: The LINTON CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES, which presents international performers in intimate settings, will feature pianist Wu Han with violinist Soovin Kim and cellist Sophie Shao in works by Haydn, Shostakovich and Arensky. Sunday's 7:30 p.m. concert is at the First Unitarian Church in Avondale; for Monday evening's program it's Congregation Ohav Shalom in Montgomery. Tickets: 513-381-6868. ... If your ears need tuning up for the heavy-duty singing during the May Festival (check out www.mayfestival.com for concert programs and dates, beginning May 16), how about a program on Saturday at 8 p.m. by the VOCAL ARTS ENSEMBLE (513-556-4183). If you like that one, you might run up to Dayton on Sunday for two choral masses by Haydn and Mozart, performed by the DAYTON BACH SOCIETY (937-229-4016) or mark your calendar for a program by MUSE, Cincinnati Women's Choir on May 10-11 at Memorial Hall (513-241-7469). Muse's program, wrapping up their 19th season, is Woman, You've Got To Face The Music, tunes written by, for and about women.
