Atlanta's Shannon Wright has the kind of voice that sends shivers, loaded with wounded emotion and spine-tingling soul. Wright who also plays guitar and piano got started with the band Crowsdell, which disbanded in 1998. Lucky for us, it gave way to what, so far, has been an astounding solo career. Wright's latest, Dyed in the Wool (Quarterstick Records), is a dazzling, beautifully orchestrated record that's driven by Wright's bewitching songwriting chops and intriguing instrumentation -- strings and keys mingle with the spacious, winding guitar, bass and drum substructure with a wondrous grace and enchanting creativity. For those jaded by some Indie Rock's dead-inside vibe, Wright's soulful take is sweet, sweet salvation. Dyed in the Wool is nothing short of remarkable. At the Southgate House on Friday with locals Sonic Elf and the Insect Clicks (making their debut) and Louisville's Second Story Man. -- M.B.
