Shawn Loescher

Shawn Loescher

West Coast alto saxman Shawn Loescher is an upcoming "Young Lion" on the Jazz scene, drawing the attention of Jazz critics and fans worldwide. At just 27, Loescher has been lauded with awards and commissions as a composer and he's also in demand as a session player, appearing on over 50 albums of varying genres. Loescher's style has been dubbed "Chamber Jazz" (perhaps a hint at his Classical influence) and his latest CD, 1999's Distance (which was recently remastered and re-issued by popular demand) shows the saxophonist to have not only an emotive, tone-rich playing quality, but also an impressive arrangement ability.

Thursday at The Greenwich.-- M.B.
