Mock Orange
|
The new album, The Record Play, by Evansville, Indiana's Mock Orange, finds the band refining the crafty, emotive Indie Rock sound that has helped the group earn a respectable following amongst underground Rock fans around the country. On Record, the band slightly tones down some of the angular, distorted riffing of their previous work, opting instead for a more expansive, uniquely constructed approach that revels in dynamics and absorbing melodies. Like Superchunk (a group MO shares some sonic qualities with), Mock Orange has found a way to both re-invent and challenge themselves (and their fans) the further they get into their discography. The end result is an album that shows the group in peak form. If you are even remotely a fan of earnest, well-done Indie Rock, you will absolutely not be disapointed in The Record Play.
Saturday at Top Cat's with locals Thistle (fresh off a tour with Mock Orange) and Ampline (who have a new album due out next year). The 8:30 show is all ages.
