Nostalgia reigns in two retrospectives. LEON LIPPERT, REDISCOVERING THE ART AND THE MAN is an historical walk through Cincinnati's past at the Cincinnati Art Club this weekend. Lippert's Cincinnati people and places in the kinder, gentler '20s, '30s and '40s are available in catalog and online. Info: tlippert@fuse.net.

And PAUL CHIDLAW, who taught or guided about half of the area's artists during his career, is featured at Cincinnati Art Galleries, opening with a reception Friday. Just when it looks like Chidlaw's work is completely off the market, now come two collectors offering a sizable group of his work in all media, including mixed media and drawings. About 70 pieces are available at the gallery; priced from $250 to $8,400. The artist was prodigious, but considering the continuing popularity of his work, this is a great opportunity to view it in bulk and make a killing.

LEE BLEDSOE, formerly of DiJohn's restaurant in Covington, and currently managing the new Aioli at Seventh and Elm streets is calling for artists to exhibit on a revolving show schedule. Unless your work is all tied up in museum contracts, restaurants offer some neat exhibit advantages, not the least of which is the presence of a captive audience. Info: 513-929-0525.

Not everyone ignores Midwestern artists. A cutting edge NEW ART EXAMINER will be unveiled this weekend. The 30-year-old publication is getting a new lease on expanded publication with glossy color design and funding in part by Lewis Manilow, art collector and former president of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Interviews with editor Kathryn Hixson and with Judith Kirschner, dean of the College of Architecture and the Arts of Illinois-Chicago University will be featured in the first issue. Look for it in chain book stores all over town. It hits the international scene on May 11-14 at Art Chicago on the Navy Pier.
