LEE KONITZ AND FRANK
KIMBROUGH - Watching that omnipresent JAZZ and itching to see one of the true-blue originals. Well, here's your chance to see a real Jazz legend, live and in the flesh. Konitz rose to fame in Jazz circles in the '40s, staking his own claim as a top saxophonist in a Charlie Parker-crazed world. Konitz played with Miles Davis (Birth of Cool era), Stan Kenton and Gerry Mulligan, before forming his own groups in the '50s. Konitz specialty is improvisation, a skill he is so apt at that the New York Times called him "as original a players as there is in Jazz." Konitz is joined by pianist Frank Kimbrough, who was a founder of the Jazz Composer Collective and is also praised for his keen improv skills. 8 p.m. Saturday. Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park North, Dayton. $18. 937-496-3863.
