H SOUTHGATE HOUSE -- L.A.-based Idaho formed some eight years ago, when they were one of the leaders of what came to be known as "Slo Core," alongside Codeine and the Red House Painters. But, while that tag is slightly appropriate because of the molasses movement of the music, it seems to suggest that the bands of the genre are depressing and boring. Idaho's music is anything but boring -- the textures and depth of their recordings (most recently, Hearts of Palm) are hypnotic and enthralling. And, as their other recent release, People Like Us Should Be Stopped (a live set), shows, the band showcase a buzzing, undeniable energy in concert.

With the like-minded Keynote Speaker. Cover.
