Leslee Wick

By Brandon Brady

Leslee Wick

One person's trash is Leslee Wick's art. "I guess I'm a junker at heart. I love finding and collecting things that others discard."

She created "Her Vanity Radiated" with rhinestones, jewelry and beads over a mannequin subsculpture. She revisited the style with His Dreams Took Him On A Colorful Journey, an homage to Bill Powell, her employer for 16 years at Lance's Art Supplies, Prince Art & Framing and Wilson's Art Store, her sponsor. She turned to people important to Powell in gathering "junk" for her pig.

Her assemblage is another step into re-entering the art world after years away from her craft. Instead of regretting her time away, she's helping others not lose track of their art. "So many had fallen in the same cycle I had. So many weren't actively making it a part of their lives," she says. So she's creating an associate art show for mid-October at Prince. Her art will be in the exhibit. "Whatever I do, I give it my all, and for whatever reason, I let other things become my priority and put my art on the back burner," she explains. But her art is front and center, even if once it was trash.
