Under the heading of PIGS: If this pudding needed any proof, just a trip downtown tells the pigtale. This past weekend brought hundreds of tourists, many of whom are making trips to arty animal cities a regular pilgrimage, bearing maps (obtained at local hotels) in one hand and cameras in the other determined to hunt down as many porkers as possible in a short amount of time. Many of them started in the city's core around Sixth and Vine and headed east, ending up at Lytle Park and the Taft Museum of Art. There's even a grapevine method of rating the porcine designs which labels those in Lytle Park among the best in the city. The poor souls who followed city maps and drove discovered "there is no there there," wondering whatever happened to the city as they found themselves rerouted down street after street. It's doubtful that even Tamara Harkavy, Artworks' director, could have envisioned the pig impact Cincinnati is experiencing.
Speaking of rating the pigs, the CINCINNATI ART MUSEUM is planning to hold a private election on Aug. 6, complete with Jazz band, crafts for kids and ice cream sundaes from 1-4 p.m. Maps will be provided marking the location of all eight of their pigs, and it's going to be a hard choice. 721-ARTS.
Buy a pig! On Tuesday from 5:30-11:00 p.m., it's a pig sale in Eden Park at the old ball field. This isn't the big auction -- that comes in November -- but a shot to buy mini-pigs designed by students in the summer-long ArtWorks program (as well as some painted by "celebrities"). Appropri-ately enough, the event will feature pulled pork from the Montgomery Inn, along with chicken and beef franks. Admission to the auction is $15. Info: 513-333-0388.
