UC Bearcat's Meow
A bunch of folks at the University of Cincinnati are putting their best paws forward. At the next night of York Street Poetry Readings on May 22, two professors of creative writing will share their verse. JOHN DRURY, who has written the collection The Stray Ghost, will be spotlighting his latest book of poetry, The Disappearing Town (see review at left). Joining Drury will be DON BOGEN, who has his own collection of poetry titled The Known World. And there's more news to be reported about Bogen. He will have new poems featured in a forthcoming edition of the highly respected Partisan Review. But it's not just UC professors who should have their horns tooted. Past and present students are doing quite well in their own right. Two have been selected for the Wick Poetry Chapbook Series. VIVE GRIFFITH, who received her M.A. at UC and is currently in the M.F.A. program at the University of Texas, has had her Weeks In This Country recently published by the Kent State University Press. Also receiving this honor is current UC Ph.D. student JIM MURPHY. Kent State just published Murphy's The Memphis Sun. It definitely sounds like some Bearcats are on the prowl in the poetry domain.
