Enon
|
Enon is the latest project from John Schmersal, formerly of area band Brainiac, who is joined live by Rick Lee of Skeleton Key, Matt Schultz of another local group, Let's Crash, and Toko Yasuda, ex-Blonde Redhead. Sounds like an Indie supergroup, but Enon's debut, believo! (SeeThru Broadcasting) is bigger than the group members' legacies. You'll hear elements of Skeleton Key (the clanking percussion) and Brainiac (Schmersal's unique guitar style), but the songwriting is especially strong and each track on the record has its own identity, making it impossible to pigeon-hole the band to any one genre. A little exotica here, a little Indie noise and No Wave there (and even a little R&B soul on album opener "Rubber Car"), makes for a thoroughly inventive and enjoyable album -- remarkable and challenging from start to finish.
At The Comet on Tuesday.
