And now, Lexington wants you to decorate a horse ... of course. On the heels of the cattle stampede in Chicago, and the Big Pig Gig right here in Cincinnati, our neighbor to the south has an eye on hitching up for a little of that publicity ploy, too. March 17 is the deadline for HORSE MANIA from the Lexington Arts and Cultural Council. Complete packets are due on that date, which include slides of the artist's work, design or designs (as many as you want) and résumé. Each chosen artist receives $2,500. Outlines of the two horse poses are included in the information kit, obtained by writing or phoning: Horse Mania, Lexington Arts and Cultural Council, Inc., 161 North Mill Street, Lexington, KY 40507. Call: 606-255-ARTS. Next up? How about a Roadkill Roundup?

1310 PENDLETONis now an interstate art corporation with an Indiana satellite. The oldest of the growing Rising Sun downtown historic buildings, the Gibson Hardware building, has been purchased by 1310 to be renovated and transformed into 14 artist's studios with a showcase gallery on the street level, where artists are expected to provide entertainment by creating for an audience. According to Nancy Gililland, director of the Historic Downtown Project, there are still incentive packages waiting for businesses desiring to locate in Rising Sun. Information: 812-438-2750.

Put on your running shoes and make a dash for the wonderful 13th annual MINUMENTAL ART EXHIBIT at the Art Academy in Eden Park, where you'll find the art everywhere: in halls, an upstairs gallery, on walls. It's hard to match this for imagination on a small scale. Big is not always best, and here's a chance to see that axiom in action in an Academy tradition which features nothing over 2 inches in any direction. Awards were juried by Contemporary Arts Center Curator Susan Spaid. The show runs through April 2, but don't wait too long. These little gems sell like hot-cakes.
