Art is being recognized as therapeutic by CHRIST HOSPITAL, and a lot cheaper than your local pharmacist. Its soothing qualities are being displayed in the halls of that institution in 200 pieces of art by 40 local artists, thanks to beginning financing by Cincinnati Bell. The current display, which opens Thursday, 5 - 7 p.m., will be up for 10 weeks. Heather Deweese is in the market for interested artists who wish to show after that, and for a curator. The method of selection has not yet been decided, but a big incentive lies in the tiny 20 percent commission to the hospital. Info: 513-585-8116.

Something big is once again on the agenda of the ARTS SERVICES OFFICE, a group which specializes in art-useful programs. "The Business of Sponsorship" will happen on Feb. 28 from 5-8 p.m. at Memorial Hall. Want to know what a sponsor is? How do you get one? Or get to be one? Who are they? It's all free. Just register by fax: 513-871-2706, e-mail: arserv@ fuse.net, or phone 513-871-2787. Artists and art patrons, rich and not so rich, are welcome.

THE CARNEGIE's call to artists is out. Don't think you have to fill one of those big halls. This could be better for those of you who sell it as fast as you make it. There's something for everyone: retrospectives, a need for music by individuals or small groups, and theater events. Call and find out where you fit. 606-491-2030.

The ALICE F. AND HARRIS K. WESTON ART GALLERY in the Aronoff Center is putting art on center stage from Friday through Sunday. Performance art, Internet art, films, a contribution by the (o-o-h) Robert J. Shiffler Foundation. If it moves or makes noise, it's there. Some free, some pay. Call 513-977-4165.

A great contemporary lecture series begins at Northern Kentucky University on Monday evening in Room 416 in the Fine Arts Building. If you've gotten lost there before, fear not. Clear signs are promised. LAURA ROSENFELD will speak. This is the first of an 8-part series, more of which will be in this space next column. Call 606-572-6659 or 606-572-6012. No admission. Free parking on campus.
