Author, Author
And throw some poets in there too, just for good measure. The king (and queen) of local independent bookstores, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, is honoring our fair writing community with a LOCAL AUTHOR CELEBRATION. Eight such writers will be on hand from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 17, for some readings and refreshments. Scheduled to be on hand are Nancy Goldberg Levin, Brenda Saylor, Janet Lucky Cordish, Scot N. Kaeff, Mike Hayde, Zell Schilman, Melissa Frances and Lonna D. Kingsbury. For many of them this will be the first chance for them to become unglued from their computers or typewriters and mingle with the public, so please be gentle.

Radio Free Writing
Books and stories are just so passé. Television and radio are where it's at. Maybe that's why one local writing group has taken to hosting a show on WVXU (91.7 FM). WOMEN WRITING FOR (A) CHANGE ON THE RADIO airs every Sunday night at 9 p.m. with hosts Barbara Gray and Mary Pierce Brosmer. The show is designed to be a weekly discussion with female authors about their work and their life. As the press release says, the show will be "bringing women to words and the words of women to the world."

Close to the Curb
Northern Kentucky University is expecting some northern exposure. There will be no denizens from Cicely, Alaska, but there will be one from Fairbanks. Actually, he's a transplant returning to his roots. Poet JOSEPH ENZWEILER, born and raised in Cincinnati beginning in 1950, helps launch his third book of poetry, A Curb in Eden, at 2 p.m. Tuesday at NKU's Honors Hall. A Curb in Eden encompasses youth, love, old age, death, work, passion, dreams, memory, reconciliation, letting go and forgiveness. At least, it's not bogged down on themes.
