Another Helping
We don't have a taste for it ourselves, but those Chicken Soup books sure do sell. The editors are now accepting stories for the newest installment, CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE FATHER'S SOUL. Stories can be inspirational, emotional and/or humorous, but must be a "true story that opens the heart and rekindles the spirit." The maximum word count is 1,200 words and a permission fee of $300 will be paid for one-time rights. There are no limits to the number of submissions and deadline is Aug. 27. Send stories to Chicken Soup for the Father's Soul, 3104 Camelback Rd., #531, Phoenix, AZ 85016, e-mail to soup4soup@home.com or fax to 602-508-8912.

Road Trip
Just our luck. A cool assortment of writers, editors and literary agents will convene, but not in the Tristate area. But then it is called THE 1999 COLUMBUS WRITERS CONFERENCE. Well, that's not too far for a plethora of sessions on too many topics to list here. The conference takes place Sept. 17-18, but early bird registration is going on now through Aug. 28. To receive a brochure, call 6144513075 or e-mail Angela Palazzolo at AngelaPL28@aol.com or write The Columbus Writers Conference, P.O. Box 20548, Columbus, OH 43220.

Barrel of Children
Ya gotta have Faith. That would be Country singer Faith Hill and her Family Literacy Project. The purpose of the Project is to get books to children's literacy programs throughout the country. Joining the organization in this end is VHA, Inc., America's Promise -- The Alliance for Youth and Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores. The latter is the dropping ground for donations, with four locations in the Tristate area. This NEIGHBORHOOD BOOK DRIVE lasts through Aug. 31.
